Turns out road setbacks at New Mexico State and Denver weren't the costliest losses Utah State suffered this past week.

The Aggies announced Monday that the injuries two of their top players suffered in Las Cruces on Thursday night both are serious.

Guard Preston Medlin, Utah State's leading scorer and maybe the WAC's premier shooter, will miss six to eight weeks as a result of a fractured wrist, meaning the rest of his junior season is in jeopardy. Forward Kyisean Reed, Utah State's third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder, will definitely be out for the rest of the season as a result of a torn ACL.

"First and foremost is our concern for Kyisean and Preston. This is as tough as it gets and we hurt for them first and our team second," Utah State coach Morrill said in a release from the school. "We expect our players to step up and compete, as we have a lot of season left."

Credit Morrill for his brave stance, but the reality is this is a crushing loss for an Aggies team that was 14-1 prior to the New Mexico State game. Utah State lost 64-51 at New Mexico State and 68-57 at Denver, struggling defensively in both games as their opponents shot well over 50 percent from the floor.

If Utah State was the WAC favorite with Medlin and Reed, the Aggies probably cede that title to Louisiana Tech now. The Bulldogs (16-3, 7-0) have already beaten New Mexico State and Denver at home and visit Utah State next Saturday.
