If Olivier Hanlan needed any further proof that he deserved the ACC Freshman of the Year award, he provided it Thursday with a sizzling 41-point outburst in first-round win over Georgia Tech.

Boston College overcame an early double-digit deficit to beat the Yellowjackets 84-64 in a battle of two .500 teams needing to win the tournament title and automatic berth to get to the NCAA tournament.

Hanlan made 14 of 18 field goal attempts, including eight of 10 3-pointers. It was part of a torrid shooting performance from behind the arc by the Eagles. They made 14 of 24 3-point attempts (.583).

Hanlan, who was named freshman of the year by the league's coaches this week, set an ACC freshman, single-game scoring record. Harrison Barnes and Tyler Hansbrough shared the previous freshman scoring record of 40 points in a game.

Additionally, his 41 points were the most scored in an ACC tournament game in 43 years. Charlie Scott scored 41 for North Carolina in  a 1970 quarterfinal game against Virginia.

Hanlan's and the Eagles' reward for their big day is a midday game against top-seeded Miami on Friday, but at least their still playing.
