Marcus Smart's fate should be clear by the end of the day.

Oklahoma State announced Sunday afternoon that Smart, coach Travis Ford and athletic director Mike Holder will hold a press conference at 6 p.m. EST in Stillwater to address Saturday night's altercation between Smart and Texas Tech fan Jeff Orr. Big 12 officials are expected to announce Smart's punishment prior to then.

Smart's season is in jeopardy because he went into the first row of the stands and delivered a two-handed shove to Orr's chest with six seconds left in Oklahoma State's 65-61 loss in Lubbock. It's unclear exactly what Orr said or did to provoke Smart, but Oklahoma State radio analyst John Holcomb said Smart accused Orr of using a racial slur when explaining his actions to Ford and the referees.

Referees assessed a technical foul to Smart but they did not eject him from the game. He was still yelling and gesturing while Texas Tech fans stormed the floor after the final buzzer and had to be restrained by an Oklahoma State staffer as he left the floor.

Ford refused to speculate about Smart's potential punishment after Saturday's game, saying that he needed to review the incident first. Texas Tech associate athletic director for communications Blayne Beal has said the school will conduct a "thorough investigation" into the incident before commenting further.
