It started with an argument over a hairbrush.
According to reports from Louisville TV stations WHAS and WLKY, Knowles and his girlfriend were engaged in a verbal dispute over a hairbrush at her Shepherdsville, Ky. home when her stepfather attempted to intervene. The stepfather claims Knowles then punched him in the face, resulting in the black eye and bruising you see in the grotesque photos to the right that were sent to WLKY.
Knowles told police that his girlfriend's stepfather shoved him at some point during the argument and he retaliated in self-defense. Nobody has been arrested or charged with anything at this point, but the Bullitt County district attorney will wait until police conclude their investigation before making a final decision.
The incident involving Knowles is the latest setback of a discouraging Louisville offseason that was supposed to build excitement for the opening of the school's sparkling new arena next fall. The Cardinals already lost top recruiting target Marquis Teague to rival Kentucky and starting big man Samardo Samuels to the NBA draft.
Knowles, a part-time starter for Louisville as a junior, averaged 7.2 points and 3.1 rebounds last season.
Hopefully the step-father will recover quickly from his injuries, everyone will put this incident behind them, and Knowles will learn the lesson not to let an argument that sounds trivial escalate into something serious.
