The most annoying commercials of the tournament’s opening weekend

The Dagger

Sit on the sofa four straight days and you're bound to be hit with more advertising messages than a session of Saturday morning cartoons. Here are the five that tested my sanity over the opening weekend of the NCAA tournament. Which ones do you never want to see again?

* * *

1. Bud Light's blind date: If we were seeding March Madness commercials, this would be far and away the 1/1. Mostly because it's been aired no less than 1,700 times since Thursday morning. You're one of the biggest breweries in the world and you're armed with one of the biggest marketing budgets. Couldn't you have at least filmed a prequel showing why Mr. Beardo isn't allowed in Cleveland any more?

2. Southwest Airlines "Welcome Aboard": What, were The Lumineers or Mumford and Sons unavailable? This oft-played ad touting the virtues of the discount carrier features a song by Fun, a band that only exists so we can miss Freddie Mercury even more. Let's put it this way: I'd rather sit through a Southwest flight attendant's attempt at a comedy routine than ever see this commercial again.

3. Blackberry "Keep Moving": This commercial is on the list less for its product or message and more for its song, which is "Elephant" by Tame Impala. It's not a bad little tune until you realize you liked it better when it was called "Spirit In The Sky" by Norman Greenbaum.

* * *

Buffalo Wild Wings "Expanded Field": A bigger tournament featuring the Fightin' Snails and Computer Tech U. Did these noted wing purveyors even bother to watch some of the stinkers on Thursday and Friday?

* * *

Taco Bell "Hola": It turns out that translating Lionel Richie lyrics into Spanish is one of those things that remains better in theory. You know, like turning Doritos snack chips into taco shells?

Which ad hasn't gotten on your nerves the most?
