New Mexico must be cursed.

No matter how good the Lobos are, no matter the opponent, no matter the year, they just can't seem to advance beyond the first two games in the NCAA tournament and make it to their first Sweet 16.

This won't be the year either, even though it was supposed to be the best chance in decades. No. 14 seed Harvard had other plans and upset the No. 3-seeded Lobos 68-62 in the biggest surprise of the first day of the NCAA tournament.

It was a massive upset, not just because of the expectations New Mexico brought to the table but because Harvard had never before won an NCAA tournament game. And, oh by the way, this is a Harvard team that played this season without its two best players who were lost for the season because of a cheating scandal.

YYYYYEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!! HARVARD winssss!!! hahahahhah i told you.... #threepointgoggles #bracketbusters http://twitter.com/JLin7/status/3%E2%80%A6

The Lobos were a popular darkhorse pick this year to not only finally get over the Sweet 16 bugaboo but even take it a step or two further. This is a team that won both the regular season and Mountain West Conference tournament titles. The MWC was the toughest conference in the nation in RPI rankings.

It was a tough opening in the tournament for the Mountain West. The league is 1-3 in a year in which much more was expected.

If you see a New Mexico fan any time soon, given em a hug. This one was tough, and almost no one knows NCAA tournament disappointment like they do.
