Scheduling can be a such an emotionally charged issue in college basketball that fans will often call sports talk radio or write a letter to a local newspaper to complain that a rival school won't play their alma mater.

Rarely, however, will anyone go quite as far to reinvigorate a long-dormant in-state rivalry as one Wright State fan apparently did.

Frustrated that Dayton and Wright State haven't played a basketball game against one another in more than 13 years, somebody scribbled a message in white paint on the side of a Dayton building that reads "Why is UD afraid 2 play Wright St?" A reporter from Dayton TV station WDTN snapped a photo of the graffiti from the side of the road.

It is unusual that Dayton and Wright State don't play anymore considering both are solid basketball programs and the two campuses are separated by all of 10 miles. They met eight times between 1988 and 1997, Dayton holding a 5-3 edge in the series including a 93-64 home win in the most recent meeting.

Before any Gonzaga fans who want to entice Washington into renewing their dormant rivalry get out their spray paint and drive to the nearest freeway overpass, graffiti probably isn't the ideal way to rekindle a series.

Still, the Wright State fan's message is a good one even if the medium wasn't. Maybe it will jumpstart conversation.
