Duke's Kyle Singler still undecided whether to stay or go
A scary thought for ACC teams hoping to dethrone Duke next season: Kyle Singler says he's strongly considering returning to school.
At a time when every other NBA prospect with a pulse can't seem to sign draft declaration paperwork fast enough, Singler insists his mind remains "scrambled" regarding the decision. The junior forward is projected as a late first-round pick if he opts to leave Duke.
"I am going to have to take a couple days to gather some information and just kind of think about it," the Oregon native Singler told Portland's KFXX. "I would say my decision is a week away - maybe less than that. I really don't have any idea what I am going to do."
Like Singler, a handful of elite players still have draft decisions left to make that will help shape the national title picture next season.
Butler sophomore Gordon Hayward could parlay the buzz he generated during the NCAA tournament into being a first-round pick, but the Bulldogs will be a top-five team if he returns.
Purdue juniors E'Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson have declared for the draft without signing with agents, but the Boilers could have the Final Four run Robbie Hummel's injury deprived them of last season if those two return.
And Xavier's Jordan Crawford and Georgetown's Greg Monroe are both impact players who could transform quality teams into title contenders should they choose to return to college for one more year.
If Singler returns to Duke, the Blue Devils would be a clear title favorite entering next season. He said he'll make his decision by consulting his parents, NBA experts and Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, whom he insists has not put any pressure on him so far.
"He just told me, ‘I'm here for you, if you needed anything,'" Singler said. "He told me that, from what he's heard, I am a late first round, maybe second round pick. He basically said that it's up to me. It's my decision and he'll definitely support what I choose to do."
