Two years as a beat writer covering the Los Angeles Lakers eventually reminded me that my passion lies more with marching bands and screaming student sections than piped-in pop songs and corporate crowds.
That's why I've been counting down the days until I could get started at The Dagger, a place where college basketball is the center of the universe in more than just mid-March.
As a lifelong Californian raised on Pac-10 hoops (I know, I know, pick your punchline), I'll probably bring a bit of a West Coast slant to this blog. Before joining Yahoo! Sports, I spent the past 4 1/2 years at The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., covering everything from local high school hoops to UCLA's 2008 Final Four run to the past two NBA Finals.
From news and commentary to interviews with players and coaches to video clips of the amazing plays and unforgettable screw-ups that make college hoops fun, I hope to provide fresh content that you can't find anywhere else. And of course, I'll have some help from Chris Chase and Matt Norlander, my colleagues who have kept this ship afloat while it was captainless the past couple months.
The lifeblood of any blog is interaction with readers, so if you think I'm going too hard on North Carolina or too easy on Connecticut, call me on it at firstname.lastname@example.org and reach out to me on Twitter.
The best three weeks of the year are little more than a month away, so let's not waste any time and get started.
