Athletes, coaches allow themselves to be doused with buckets of ice water for charity

Colorado coach Linda Lappe and sophomore center Bri Watts get doused with buckets of cold water during a June 2014 basketball camp. The challenge supports the Kay Yow Fund

Some of the biggest names in women's college basketball as well as other notable figures from the sports world are voluntarily having buckets of ice water dumped over their heads.

The #Chillin4Charity cold water challenge inspired by legendary North Carolina State coach Kay Yow, who died in 2009 from breast cancer, benefits the Kay Yow Fund.

The challenge was started by Arizona women's basketball coach Niya Butts and requires participants to have a bucket of ice water dumped over their heads as if they've just won a national championship. Those that accept the challenge agree to donate $50 to the fund and are asked to challenge three more people. They also have to complete the challenge within 48 hours of being challenged. Those who don't accept the challenge are supposed to donate $250 to the fund.

Active student-athletes aren't required to donate money. They donate their time instead volunteering for community service hours.

Not everyone taking the challenge is going is sticking strictly to the bucket of water over their head. Some are getting a little more creative.
