One month before he coaches his first game at George Mason, new Patriots coach Paul Hewitt has already accomplished something his predecessor Jim Larranaga probably wouldn't have been able to do. He pulled off the above outfit. Hewitt donned an identical suit to Doc Nix, the iconic George Mason band leader known for dressing like, well ...  like a pimp. There's only one Nix though, and he led the Mason band in a unusual yet thoroughly enjoyable rendition of "Party Rock Anthem" replete with chest bumps, break dancing and some guy with a cardboard box over his head. Fun stuff, though still not as amazing as the Green Machine's version of several Rage Against the Machine songs last March {YSP:MORE}

The highlight of North Carolina's dance-off at Friday's Late Night with Roy Williams event certainly wasn't any moves one of the Tar Heels players pulled off. Instead their 61-year-old coach upstaged them with a reluctant but memorable shimmy as a roaring sellout crowd at the Dean Dome cheered him on. How did Williams do in his foray into undoubtedly foreign territory? Well, it certainly wasn't an instant hit like Kentucky women's coach Matthew Mitchell's performance Friday night, but it wasn't Elaine from Seinfeld bad either.{YSP:MORE}

Miles Plumlee had already leaped over 6-foot-10 younger brother Mason on a dunk last year. Now the eldest Plumlee can say he has also used 6-foot-11 youngest brother Marshall as a dunk prop. At Duke's Countdown to Craziness event on Friday night, Miles showcased his trademark athleticism, clearing Marshall with just a slight push-off and easily completing a smooth one-handed jam. The jam was good enough to win Duke's dunk contest, but it probably Miles' performance in the intrasquad scrimmage that was most encouraging for Blue Devils fans. The eldest Plumlee had 15 point and 8 rebounds, leading his team to a victory. {YSP:MORE}

It's a testament to Syracuse's place among college basketball's elite that its legends game during Friday night's Midnight Madness festivities featured such an array of recognizable stars. Among the former Orange stars who participated: Hakim Warrick, John Wallace, Jonny Flynn, Andy Rautins and Wes Johnson, with Pearl Washington and Billy Owens serving as assistant coaches. Wallace earned bragging rights for his team by sinking the game-winning three-pointer over Flynn with 5.8 seconds left. Of course, by far the loudest ovation from the crowd of 28,000 was reserved for the Syracuse legend who didn't participate in the game. Carmelo Anthony, star of the 2003 national championship team, nearly brought the Carrier Dome down when Jim Boeheim introduced him.

If Michigan State's Tom Izzo is the king of the memorable Midnight Madness entrance, Kansas coach Bill Self is not far behind. Self actually may have topped Izzo last October with his Vanilla Ice costume complete with a backwards cap, shades, gold chains and a matching silk shirt and pants. What this year's motorcycle get-up lacks in ridiculousness it makes up for in cool, especially the custom-made and custom-painted blue and red bike commemorating the Jayhawks' 2008 national championship. Said Self to a sold out Allen Fieldhouse crowd: "This is the first time I've ever ridden a motorcycle in my life other than a Suzuki 50 in third grade ... Take it from an expert. In case Creighton fans weren't already excited about out-dueling Colorado and Wichita State to land Austin Chatman, they surely are now after glimpsing the class of 2011 point guard's athleticism up close Friday night. Chatman, generously listed at 6 feet, took a running start from the top of the key, leapt over 7-footer Geoff Groselle and threw down a flawless alley-oop jam to help win Creighton's dunk contest. Granted Chatman had to push off a bit to ensure he didn't collide with Groselle's head, but it was still an impressive dunk. "We practiced it four or five times yesterday and got it one time," Chatman said. "I figured I'd get it today with the adrenaline rush."{YSP:MORE}

It takes a lot for anyone to steal the spotlight from John Calipari during Big Blue Madness, but Kentucky women's coach Matthew Mitchell may have pulled it off. Clad in a Michael Jackson-esque costume complete with a black top hat, shades and a white glove, Mitchell delivered a choreographed dance number that 99 percent of Division I coaches would never have had the guts to even attempt. First he moon-walked to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Then he hit the Dougie on stage for the second straight year. And finally he did the John Wall dance. The ovation Mitchell received for his efforts was even louder than Calipari's. Well, almost.

Embattled Mississippi State big man Renardo Sidney won the school's Midnight Madness scrimmage for his team with the above two-handed follow slam, a nice moment to be sure yet maybe not his best of the night. According to the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal's Brad Locke, Sidney delivered a terrific line while delivering a pre-taped video tour of the school's newly built practice facility. Said Sidney as he pointed to a chair across from the desk in coach Rick Stansbury's office: "This is the hot seat. You do not want to sit in this seat. You're in this seat, you're in trouble. Trust me, I know." To the delight of the crowd, Sidney then lounged in Stansbury's chair, put his feet up on the desk and delivered the classic Stansburyism, "It is what it is."
