On a college basketball Saturday in which five teams upset top 20 opponents, none of them were responsible for the day's most incredible shot.
That belonged to Lindsey Wilson College guard Chase Spreen, whose 80-foot heave as time expired lifted his team to an improbable 79-78 victory over Georgetown College.
The Blue Raiders trailed by 19 early in the second half and by five in the waning seconds of the game, but Kalen Kimberland sank a corner three with three seconds left and Lindsey Wilson immediately fouled Georgetown's Garel Craig. Two missed free throws from Craig enabled Spreen to grab the rebound, take one dribble and launch his unlikely game winner from the free-throw line.
In addition to the dog pile of players at mid-court and the wild celebration in the stands, the wildly enthusiastic call of Lindsey Wilson's play-by-play man only adds to the moment. Buzzer-beaters don't get much crazier than this one, and the man behind the mic certainly put every ounce of oxygen in his lungs into this call — and then some.
Credit Spreen for a rare "SportsCenter"-worthy highlight from the NAIA level. And someone buy the play-by-play man a packet of throat lozenges. Poor guy probably needs them.
