48 hours later, K-State selling DVD, auctioning net from KU upset

Kansas State appears determined to still cash in on what's been a disappointing season on the hardwood.

Not even 48 hours after the Cats pulled off one of the season's biggest stunners, downing No. 1 Kansas at home on Monday night, 84-68, the athletics department has a DVD commemorating the upset for sale on its website.

The disc, which is yours for $19.95 (plus shipping & handling, of course), includes both the television and radio calls from the game and a smattering of postgame press conference clips and court-side interviews. There are more special features, too, that are not specified.

If you're a bigger spender, you can place a bid on one of Monday's game-used nets.

This is nothing new for Kansas State, which took the same DVD route three years ago not long after the up-and-coming Cats upset Kansas at Bramlage Coliseum when the Jayhawks were again the nation's top-ranked team. The department has done it following several landmark football and men's basketball wins over the years.

What makes it different this time around is that wins like this were expected from K-State this season. Remember, the Cats were the preseason pick to win the Big 12, and were also ranked four spots ahead of their in-state rival in the season's initial AP Top 25 poll.

The win probably put K-State back on the good side of the NCAA tournament bubble, but Frank Martin's club, at 5-6 now in conference play, is not quite out of the woods with five regular-season games to go.

The net I understand, and when it comes to the commemorative DVD, I'm somewhere in the middle. But what's your take? Is it a wise sales and marketing ploy by K-State, cashing in on a win that rejuvenated a struggling team and its angry fan base? Or does it cheapen the victory and take some of the shine off of the Cats' first win over an RPI Top 50 team this season?
