USC coach Andy Enfield invites players to ‘go to UCLA’ if they want to play slow

The USC-UCLA rivalry always has been more about what happens on the gridiron than the hardwood but first-year Trojans coach Andy Enfield isn't afraid to throw a little fuel on this old fire.

The San Jose Mercury News published a profile of Enfield along with a quote it says came from a recent practice in which Enfield drew a comparison between his program and the Bruins, who are now coached by former New Mexico and Iowa coach Steve Alford.

Enfield stopped a recent practice to make this point to his players.

"We play up-tempo basketball here," Enfield said. "If you want to play slow, go to UCLA."

High energy, fast-paced basketball is what Enfield is selling to recruits after using it to take Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament last spring in the program's sixth season. It also earned FGCU a new nickname in the process of becoming the first No. 15 seed in tournament history to win two games #DunkCity.

Enfield is obviously aiming for even greater success at a school with all the resources he could possibly need to get it done. And he doesn't seem all that worried about the storied program across town getting in his way.
