More than 600 came to Grampel Pavilion on Sunday night to pay tribute to former UConn men's basketball coach Jim Calhoun, who retired last year after 26 years at the school and a life spent in the sport.

At the end of the night, UConn announced the street outside the arena, Stadium Drive, has been renamed Jim Calhoun Way. Calhoun won three national titles for the school.

"A long, long time ago," The Hartford Courant quoted Calhoun. "I said I wanted to get into coaching to hopefully affect some people's lives. I know they affected mine. … Seeing all these guys is incredibly emotional for me. You look at them and say, 'There's that kid who walked in here as a 17-year-old, and look where he is now."

Many of the most notable players in the program's history returned to share their night with their coach, including Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, Ben Gordon and Kemba Walker.

Some of the elite coaches around the country recorded video tributes to Calhoun, including Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Tom Izzo, and Roy Williams.
