Northwestern forward Nikola Cerina suspended one game for fighting at Ohio State
Northwestern hasn't won a men's basketball game at Ohio State since 1977 and things got heated in the second half of the latest loss to the Buckeyes on Wednesday.
Lead official Ray Perone determined Northwestern forward Nikola Cerina will be suspended for the Wildcats next game after he threw a punch at OSU forward Amir Williams. Cerina and Ohio State's LaQuinton Ross were ejected with 5 minutes, 24 seconds remaining in the game after the fracas in Ohio State's end of the court.
"Any time an individual uses a closed fist in an unsportsmanlike manner it shall be deemed that the individual has initiated a fighting act and be penalized accordingly," Perone said in a statement issued after the game.
Perone explained that Ross will not be suspended because he was ejected for two deadball technical fouls and not for fighting.
Ross led the Buckeyes in scoring with 16 points. He was one of four starters who scored in double figures and the Buckeyes won for the fifth time in the past six games. Ohio State hosts Minnesota on Saturday.
