NC State’s Scott Wood explains how losing to your rival feels

    Scott Wood (US Presswire)

Not long after North Carolina State lost to rival North Carolina for the 11th straight time on Thursday night, reporters asked junior forward Scott Wood how frustrating it was to have never beaten the Tar Heels.

Wood's response was brilliant in its simplicity.

"Has your wife ever cheated on you?" Wood deadpanned in response.

Then after a few seconds of the most awkward silence imaginable, he responded, "that's probably how frustrating it is."

It's understandable that Wood wasn't in the best mood considering how poorly NC State played in a game it had pointed toward to validate its 4-1 start in ACC play. The Wolfpack shot 36.8 percent from the field, committed 17 turnovers and only managed to get uncontested looks against the Tar Heel defense when they were 80 feet from the basket.

The loss sets up a crucial game for NC State against upper echelon ACC opponent Virginia on Saturday in Raleigh. The Wolfpack (15-6, 4-2) are still the ACC's best chance to get a fifth team into the NCAA tournament, but they're running out of opportunities to boost a resume that looks pretty thin right now besides a November win over Texas.

    (Thanks, WRAL)

America knows nothing about respect. Look at how we treat our president.

When a popular sports figure is being interviewed, those are the phoniest conversations. If the player really told you how he feels, he would be fined or hung out to dry. Reporters know this but yet they do it. You just lost the superbowl how do you feel. DUH

It was awkward because the reporter answered, "Yes," to himself.

ABSOLUTELY!! Don't you just LOVE how they try to "tell" us who to vote for?? I'm old enough to remember when journalists were supposed to be impartial!. The entire main stream media needs to be purged!
Forget the "Mainstream" crap, all media. That term is just a way for some in the media to try to separate themselves, but the are all the same. In fact, some of the ones that claim not to be "Mainstream" are some of the worst.

Archangel, love the jpeg for your profile pic. I see your from Chicago. I didn't know there was anyone from there that thought clearly enough to see the emporer with no clothes. Very encouraging!
Diane, I too am old enough to remember. The left figured it out way back in the 60's they had to infiltrate our schools, courts, and most importantly, our newspapers! With 9 out of 10 college professors being liberal/progressive/marxist/communist, can you imagine what our journalism schools look like?
As far as "all media' being biased. I partially agree. The left loves to use this tactic. A high percentage of the media is without question, liberal. A much smaller % lleans right. All it takes is for one instance and the left says,"See the Right does it too".

This kid is awesome. I cannot stand it when reporters ask stupid questions where the answer is obvious... of course it's frustrating!
      • James 3 months ago
Thats because they do not give a crap about you only thier story.
      • EJ 3 months ago
I'm a reporter and let me tell you: there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers. Also, some questions, no matter how simple or obvious the answer may seem, need to be asked in order for information to be attributed to a source so an article is more credible and the writer doesn't appear to be making assumptions. That being said, Scott Wood definitely gave an original and highly entertaining answer to this question.

EJ -- You're wrong. There are many stupid questions just because a reporter wants to justify a stupid story. Like a reporter that intrviews a grieving mother and asks; "Wat's it like to bury a son?" Please tell me that's not stupid. I have seen questions almost word for word like that one.

When you ask a dumb question you deserve any answer you get When are the reporter going to ask question that mean something or are not just plain stupid. NEVER you can not ask questions that are importand or justified when you are clueless.
    • Arthur  •  3 months ago
Works for me. Reporters ask the dumbest questions.
    • Hammer  •  3 months ago
Reporters have no problem throwing daggers at everyone else - too fat too short stylish, not stylish, you name it they get away with it. So the one time this kid gets the upper hand ya trash him? I think it was a stupid question to begin with. Just how in the hell is he supposed to feel? I thought it was a brilliant response to a stupid question.

I applaude this young man.How stupid and idiotic is it for any so-called sports reporter to stop a coach at half time with his team losing, any athelete in any sport while they are very tired, and ask foolish questions? Most of them (reporters) have never participated in the sport of the person being interviewed, so what do they know? A lot of these reporters have no respect nor concern for the person being interviewed and if the person doesn't respond, then the coach or athelete is labled as unfriendly.

My new hero. What do you think it feels like, idiot? Reporters. Ugh.
    • Bill V  •  Minneapolis, Minnesota  •  3 months ago
Man, talk about a missed opportunity...

...After, "Has your wife ever cheated on you?", he should have allowed a short pause, and then said, "That you know of?"

The first statement was a dagger--the second one would have been twisting that daggar!!! LOL!!!
    • cody e  •  3 months ago
Good for him... Stupid reporters always ask the dumbest questions. How the hell did he think it would fell. You go Scott !!!!!!!
    • KatieB  •  Mt Prospect, Illinois  •  3 months ago
Good going! Maybe in the future reporters will think twice before asking stupid questions!
    • suspicious  •  3 months ago
Reporters ask these stupid questions because none of them are intelligent enough to think on their feet and come with something good.
    • TinCup  •  3 months ago
I can see it now - Scott Wood gets married, his wife cheats on him repeatedly, his marriage counselor asks how he feels and he responds with "Have you every been beaten by the Tar Heels?"
    • Edward  •  Miami, Florida  •  3 months ago
That is a very, very insensitive question even for a make believe journalist as most of these sports commentators are!
