When Cal State San Bernardino's Kwame Alexander slammed an alley-oop dunk through the hoop so hard earlier this month that the entire apparatus slowly began to collapse, it appeared that might be a Division II dunk of the year candidate.
Less than two weeks later, that dunk no longer is even the best one in Alexander's personal highlight reel.
The athletic 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward topped that with ease on Friday night against Cal State Stanislaus with an eye-popping "Superman style" one-handed slam. He took off from just inside the free throw line, soared over a defender threw down a dunk impressive enough that it was all people wanted to talk about after the game.
"About seventy percent of his dunks could be ESPN Top 10 plays," Cal State San Bernardino coach Jeff Oliver told The Riverside Press-Enterprise last week. "But none of it goes to his head. He realizes he's got special talents. Some guys are good jumpers, but the contact affects them on dunks. He's so strong, he just goes through contact. To me, he's an NFL tight end."
The only problem with Alexander's latest dunk is that referees could have easily ruled it a charging foul. It looked like the Cal State Stanislaus defender beat Alexander to the spot and had his feet stationary, but perhaps referees decided to give the borderline call to Alexander on sheer style points alone.
