What, exactly, is Tiger aiming for this week at Quicken Loans National?

After rounds of 76 and 75 at St. Andrews, Tiger Woods did what most golfers would in that situation, drop off the competitive grid for some much-needed R&R.

On Tuesday at the Quicken Loans National, Woods said he spent a few days with his children in the Bahamas following his short week at the Open Championship, avoiding his golf clubs and largely sidestepping the final-round coverage.

“I didn’t catch any of the final round until the playoff,” Woods said. “I turned it on and they were just going down [No.] 1 and I saw the entire playoff and didn’t realize how close it was with the guys until I saw the highlights afterwards.”

When Woods completed his final round at the Open, he mentioned concerns he had with his ball flight and the distance he was hitting shots.

“It's just that it wasn't getting through the wind,” he said at St. Andrews. “I don't know what was causing that, and it's something that we're going to have to take a look at, look at my numbers, see if the spin rates are on or not.”

At Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, where he will tee off at 12:55 p.m. on Thursday with Bill Haas andNick Watney, Woods said he checked his swing on a launch monitor when he returned home from Scotland and was pleased with those numbers.

“When I geared back up, I started doing some testing and found a couple little things but it wasn’t anything major which was nice,” he said. “Some of my swings just weren’t quite right and I worked on a few things and feel pretty good now.”

Woods is the host of this week’s event, which benefits his foundation, and has won the Quicken Loans National twice (2012 and ’09), although he’s only played the event twice since 2010 due to various injuries.
