Tiger Woods laughs off Rory McIlroy's age comments

For reasons still unknown to many, Rory McIlroy created a bit of a stir last week when he said that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were playing the“last few holes” of their careers.

The comments were taken out of context, the headline worse than the actual well-thought-out response, and even Tiger Woods said Monday that he thought the remark was “funny.”

“Phil has less holes to play than I do,” Woods said, laughing. “But it’s reality. We’re all older.”

This was the first year since 1992 that neither Woods nor Mickelson teed it up at the Tour Championship.

Woods, who turns 39 in December, failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs after missing the cut at the PGA Championship, while Mickelson, who will be 45 next summer, withdrew from the BMW Championship to rest and prepare for next week’s Ryder Cup.
