Rory McIlroy playing Augusta next week with QB Tom Brady

Rory McIlroy said Wednesday that he will make a “social” trip to Augusta National next week with his father, Gerry, and some friends.

One of those buddies: New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis reported on “Golf Central” that McIlroy will have a little more star power in his foursome next week. Lewis reports that McIlroy will have two days of practice rounds at the home of the Masters, and that one of those days he will be joined by the four-time Super Bowl champion.

A few years ago, Brady’s handicap was estimated at an 8, so it’s possible he’s improved significantly since then. He has competed a handful of times in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

McIlroy, of course, is gearing up for what could be a historic Masters. Looking for his third major in a row, the 25-year-old could become the sixth player in history to complete the career Grand Slam.
