One Thing to Know: Are OTAs worth the risk?

With this week's devastating injuries to the 49ers' Michael Crabtree and the Chargers' Melvin Ingram in mind, many have started to question the necessity of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) for NFL teams. Why risk the health of your top players when there's not much to be gained from OTAs anyway?

Well, Mike Florio disagrees, arguing that there is plenty to be gained. Though these non-contact drills can prove hazardous to players, Florio says OTAs are absolutely crucial to a team's preparation for the season.
