Chip Kelly decided to go with Michael Vick in the Eagles Week 1 matchup against the Redskins, but the first-year coach's decision comes a little earlier than anticipated. All offseason, Kelly has insisted that he would wait until the team was gameplanning for its opener to name a starter, so his ultimate timing raises some questions.
Mike Florio suspects that the Eagles made the early decision to go with Vick to provide themselves with a window to trade backup Nick Foles. Granted, a solid backup is a must for a team with a mobile starter, but if Philadelphia is confident enough in rookie Matt Barkley, now might be the perfect time to capitalize on Foles' rising stock.
