NASCAR AMERICA: Jeff Burton talks taking over for Tony Stewart

Under very difficult circumstances, NASCAR on NBC analyst Jeff Burton went back behind the wheel this weekend at Michigan International Speedway as he replaced Tony Stewart in the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet.

After starting 27th, Burton was running in the Top 20 when he reported that the cockpit of the No. 14 was filling with smoke. He was eventually forced to go to the garage, where the No. 14 crew discovered a broken tailpipe; a crack in said tailpipe was allowing heat to escape and the car’s heat shields had caught on fire.

Following replacement of the tailpipe, Burton returned to action at 24 laps off the pace. He eventually finished 37th.

Today on NASCAR AMERICA, Burton talked about his experience working with SHR, whether he’ll continue to fill in for the team in Stewart’s absence, and his own emotions regarding the aftermath of the Aug. 9 sprint car incident that involved Stewart and took the life of Kevin Ward Jr.
