Dwight Howard on Patrick Beverley: ‘It’s sad he got hurt’

It only took one game for the Houston Rockets to suffer a rash of injuries. Their initial starting point guard Pat Beverley has a partially torn muscle in his midsection, which he suffered in the season opener on Wednesday night.

He'll be undergoing rehabilitation for the next 10-14 days. After that time, he will be re-assessed. He said if it was the playoffs, he'd play on Friday night.

"I'm gonna go crazy over here just sitting here like a coach with a suit on but I'll root my team on," Beverley said. "I'll look at the game differently, maybe see some things I don't see while I'm out there and try to add that when I get back."

Jeremy Lin will start tonight for the Rockets when they face the Dallas Mavericks at 7 p.m. at Toyota Center.

Lin took three stitches in his chin from his opening game cut and also said he's dealing with some other bumps and bruises, including a bruised right ankle.

"Obviously, it's unfortunate and we need Pat," Lin said. "We need Pat to play at a high level if we want to be the team we want to be."

Heading back into the starting lineup, Lin said he's continued to focus on the same stuff regardless of role.

"Same mindset, just going to keep playing hard. At the end of the day, he's going to play, I'm going to play," Lin said, "It's still about how you play when you're out there."

James Harden's lower back stiffened up causing him to miss part of the opener. After shootaround, he said hopefully he'll be ready to play tonight.

"I went through shootaround and I felt pretty good," Harden said. "I've had two games to recover, get treatment on it, tonight's going to be a big game for us. We're at home, trying to get our swagger back a little bit."
