Just in case anyone thought Tiger Woods might change his mind about not returning to competitive golf until December, he quashed any ideas of that on Monday evening.

“That’s it; that’s all I’m playing,” Woods said when asked by Golf Channel’s Gary Williams whether he’d consider coming back prior to his own World Challenge event. “And then starting in 2015.”

Woods divulged that he won’t even be hitting a shot on the practice range anytime soon.

“It’s a slow, tedious process. I’m not going to swing a club for at least another month. It’s just about getting stronger, getting more stable, getting more dynamic, getting more explosive. Just getting my body more athletic again. It’s a process. You can’t just hop in and do it all at once. You’ve got to take it step by step.”

  • NASCAR America: Jeff Burton on taking over for Tony Stewart

NBC Sports at NBC on Yahoo Sports19 hrs ago

Jeff Burton joins the NASCAR America crew to discuss what it was like to take over for Tony Stewart in the last two races. Burton says he hasn't talked to Stewart and isn't sure when he'll be back.

At the same time, Jeff Gordon not only comforted his boss and friend, he was also a stoic leader in helping to keep the Hendrick organization on track both literally and figuratively.

That’s why it’s not surprising that Hendrick and Gordon both understand and know the kind of grief and mourning Tony Stewart is going through following the Aug. 9 sprint car tragedy that took the life of young Kevin Ward Jr.

Following Gordon’s win Sunday at Michigan, MotorSportsTalk asked Hendrick and Gordon their thoughts about Stewart. While neither man has yet to talk directly to Stewart out of respect, they helped paint a picture of what they think he has to be experiencing.

  • Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy trade jabs on Tonight Show appearance

NBC Sports at NBC on Yahoo Sports19 hrs ago

As Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy met the media for a Nike product launch at Liberty National Golf Club on Monday evening, more than one attendee noted that the Statue of Liberty looming in the background could have symbolized not only freedom and independence, but a not-so-subtle passing of the torch.

This was not long after the world’s erstwhile No. 1 and its current top-ranked player traded barbs during a taping of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” with McIlroy landing a seemingly innocuous blow to Woods’ dominance by painting it in the past tense.

This night, though, wasn’t about any sort of budding rivalry between Generation X and Generation Next.

  • NASCAR AMERICA Minute: Has Jeff Gordon peaked too early?

NBC Sports at NBC on Yahoo Sports19 hrs ago

Over the last four weeks, Jeff Gordon and his No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports team have been perhaps the most impressive group in all of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

During this stretch, Gordon has earned two wins at Indianapolis and at Michigan this past Sunday. And had he not suffered a power failure at Watkins Glen after leading 29 laps, he may have won there, too.

With his Michigan victory, Gordon has claimed the top seed in the Chase Grid with three regular season races remaining. But is the No. 24 camp peaking too early?

  • Rob Gronkowski returns to Patriots' 11-on-11 work for first time

Everyone is buzzing about Rob Gronkowski's return to the practice field and the 11-on-11 practice.

Chris Price joined Sports Tonight to discuss if the Patriots had a hidden agenda by having Gronkowski work out with the team Monday.

"The fact that he was out there today, the last day of availability," said Price. "That makes sure that gets out there. So defensive coordinators from Orchard Park to Miami Gardens now know that Rob Gronkowski is working out in pads, he's running routes, he's looking good.

"He's not there yet, but now this raises the possibility of him starting week one. I just think they wanted that message out there, I don't think it was a coincidence.

Price believes the Patriots are trying to send a message to the league.

"Look, Gronk is ready. Defensive coordinators, you've got to take notice of this guy."
