Mad Dash: Ex-MLB pitcher's daughter gets baseball scholarship

It's rarely major news when the son of a former MLB pitcher gets a college baseball scholarship, especially to a junior college. But what about a daughter? Sarah Hudek is making waves this week by committing to a scholarship to play college baseball at Bossier Parish Community College, a junior college program in Louisiana. Her father, John Hudek was a journeyman reliever and an all-star in the big leagues, and the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree. While dad was a right-hander, Sarah is a southpaw that throws in the low eighties, a la Jamie Moyer.

Her experience rivals that of any other prep baseball player, from playing some of the toughest high schools in Texas, to featuring as part of the USA Baseball program. It's no publicity stunt, and Bossier head coach Aaron Vorachek wants to make that clear.

“This is not a gimmick and I could care less about media attention,” (head coach Aaron) Vorachek said. “I’m signing her to help us win ballgames.”

Not every coach sticks to his scholarship offers, especially if his name rhymes with Pobby Betrino. But the Idaho Vandals did something far more honorable this week by keeping their commitment to a recruit, despite a recent cancer diagnosis that may keep him from continuing his football career.

What's the perfect way to celebrate your favorite team winning the College Football Playoff championship? One Ohio State fan took a page out of Ezekiel Elliott's playbook, getting a tattoo to commemorate the Buckeyes' big win over Oregon. But instead of getting the trophy, the fan got an extremely terrifying portrait of Urban Meyer on his arm. That's one way to go.
