This week in OOF: Where Kris, Pops and Landry get the business

Whether it's during Summer League or the exhibition slate, on the day-to-day spotlight of regular season or the grand stage of the playoffs, whenever NBA basketball is being played, one thing's for sure: Sooner or later, somebody's going to get got.

But not all debacles are created equal; some stand a cut above the rest. We honor those here. Welcome to This Week in OOF.

This week's dubious distinctions:

- Kris Humphries(notes) could use a little bit less of the Big Shamrock, if we're being honest;

- Pops Mensah-Bonsu(notes) becomes the latest poor sap bitten by the Durantula;

- And Landry Fields(notes) gets welcomed to the NBA by Thaddeus Young(notes).

Let's get it.

Our third-place winner this week comes from Wednesday night's match-up between the Boston Celtics and the New Jersey Nets. Rajon Rondo(notes) gets a screen from Paul Pierce(notes) at half-court and slices to the hoop, drawing Kris Humphries across the paint. Rondo promptly drops a bounce pass off to Humphries' man, Shaquille O'Neal(notes), who takes the opportunity to house Humphries, even as the ex-Minnesota Golden Gopher started to walk away. Sorry, Kris. You can't avoid the Diesel any more than you could stop the reign. (Just to be clear: You can't stop the reign.)

"Just look straight ahead. Just look straight ahead." Such an awkward situation every time Shaq kicks his legs up like that.

Coming in second place, we've got your favorite blogger's favorite baller, Kevin Durant(notes), making a sharp cut to the hoop and cramming one on your favorite blogger's favorite dude-trying-to-stick-in-the-league, Pops Mensah-Bonsu during Thursday night's game between Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder and Mensah-Bonsu's New Orleans Hornets. (Seriously, this is like an Internet love collision. If we could somehow find a way to include Corgis and "Deal With It" sunglasses, we could probably shut down Skynet.

I mean, just look at the anguish on Pops' face. He's trying so hard, you guys. David West's(notes) grimace of resignation speaks for us all. Unfortunately for Pops, right now, Durant's got the Glow. Kid can be stopped by neither man nor beast these days, which is a recipe for some OOF.

And finally, taking the number one spot to round out this week's list, we've got a play that didn't even result in points. While Jrue Holiday's(notes) destruction of Anthony Randolph(notes) earned the headlines from Wednesday night's contest between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers, this snapshot of Landry Fields trying to take a charge against a soaring Thaddeus Young — and paying the price for it — was the most breathtaking image of the week.

Whenever I look at this photo, I hear the announcer from "Street Fighter II" saying, "You win." Not you, Landry Fields. You lose. Good day, sir.

For my money, though, the looks on the faces of Jrue Holiday and Darius Songaila(notes) absolutely make the shot. Songaila looks like a kid on Christmas morning, so excited at what he's getting to see, like he's been waiting for it his whole life, while Holiday looks exactly the opposite — he looks stunned, borderline scared, awestruck at what's unfolding. I can't say I blame either one of them.

And as for you, Landry? Way to slide in there. Unfortunately, your feet were on the line, so, y'know, personal foul. Head over to the bench to ice down your forearm, face and pride. Oof.
