Video: Dr. Sanjay Gupta 'diagnoses' LeBron's elbow

If there's one thing the NBA world needs more of, it's ways to "seriously" "discuss" LeBron James'(notes) possibly injured right elbow. If there's another, it's cross-promotional cable network synergy. And if there's a third, it's five-minute segments chock full of sweet touch-screen technology.

Luckily, CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta popped up on NBA TV to "diagnose" James' ever-tender 'bow on the network's "NBA Game Time," hosted by a tight-smiling Matt Winer. Want to join me for a five-minute, in-depth medical consultation? Let's go!

Gupta's professional opinion: The fact that James has continued to play, even after undergoing an MRI, "rules out a lot of things, including the particularly bad things." Deep.

Aren't you glad you got the straight dope on Bron-Bron's ouchie from an honest-to-goodness doctor once in consideration for the post of Surgeon General in the Obama administration? Sure, he just told you the same thing that everyone on the planet has known for a solid week-and-a-half, but he did it in a suit, and with two letters and a period before his first name! That really clears things up, just in time for Friday night's Game 3 between James' Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden in Beantown.

I only see one way for this bit to avoid a permanent place in "I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul" territory: If it opens the door for Dr. Oz to show up in the next round to give Grant Hill(notes) some pointers on staying young, only to be summarily dismissed like so much Jerryd Bayless nonsense. Like some TV guy who shares a first name with Mehmet Okur's(notes) got something the Suns' medical staff doesn't. Pffffff.
