Stan Van Gundy has a solution for Oklahoma City: Deal Durant to his Magic
Since last season, when it became obvious that Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook was chafing in his role as a designated second-option in the Thunder offense, all NBA eyes have been on OKC to see if there is a potential rift between Westbrook and high-scoring forward Kevin Durant. Eric Freeman detailed a contentious back and forth between the two in a win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, and few know just what the Thunder are going to do with their brawlin' stars.
Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy has a solution. From The Oklahoman:
"When you're together as much as we are in very competitive situations, you're going to have those conflicts. You're going to have player-coach conflicts and player-player conflicts. You know, you just are. Because everybody is competitive, everybody wants to win, everybody wants to do well and a lot of times you see situations differently.
"I think it's very serious, and I think the only thing they can do is split those two guys up. And I think they need to get them a long way away, I think here to Florida, to diffuse that problem; Kevin Durant here."
Makes complete and total sense to me. Maybe not trading Durant to Florida and the Orlando Magic, but perhaps to Chicago to spend some time with the Bulls. I think some time in the Windy City could do Kevin right, he'll always be welcome at Arturo's on Armitage and Western, and this would also allow Westbrook to run the Thunder as he sees fit.
Ever the iconoclast, Van Gundy has the right attitude about this whole, terrible, ideal. He just doesn't have the execution, and location, correct. It's OK, though. It's a long season, and I'm sure Stan will figure out that the Bulls are the best destination for Durant, eventually.
