Back in the Detroit area to appear at a charity golf tournament, free agent guard Richard Hamilton reflected un-fondly on the Nov. 2008 trade that sent Chauncey Billups to the Denver Nuggets in a package that sent Allen Iverson to Detroit. From the Detroit Free Press:

Richard Hamilton never recovered after Chauncey Billups was traded away. At least not while in a Detroit Pistons uniform.

“When you are young you are like, ‘Aw, man, how can this happen? We are winning so much,’ ” Hamilton said of his feeling at the time. “You take it a little personal. We both kind of did.”

If you’ll recall, Billups was dealt on Nov. 3, 2008.

Richard Hamilton signed a contract extension to play with the Detroit Pistons through the 2011-12 season later that day.

I suppose the Era of Taking It Personally ended after a few hours when Pistons general manager Joe Dumars offered him $34 million more to stay in Detroit.
