Every February, an NBA figure of some repute (usually Magic Johnson) declares that the dunk contest is back. It is almost always difficult to believe such a statement, in part because people seem to have to remind us of it every year. If it were true, then we wouldn't need someone to tell us so. We'd just nod and say we all had a great time.
In other words, we need a dunk to remind us that the contest can still capture our imaginations. At Thursday's Minnesota Timberwolves practice, All-Star forward Kevin Love at least suggested that such a thing could be possible. Check out this taken by Minnesota big man Ronny Turiaf (he's the yelling one, too) on teammate Gorgui Dieng video, courtesy of Timberwolves.com:
Sadly, I'm not sure Love could actually do this in an official All-Star Weekend dunk contest, because putting up such a wall would mean blocking the view of fans. But it's pretty cool anyway, and inspiration can sometimes be the most valuable thing of all.
