Ball Don't Lie

The Rockets again try to sing ‘I Have a Little Dreidel,’ again delightfully don’t quite nail it (Video)

With Hanukkah beginning Wednesday night — as you might have heard, its start overlaps with Thanksgiving this year — the Houston Rockets decided to revisit one of last holiday season's nicest surprises — their ambitious attempt to have players learn and sing "I Have a Little Dreidel" as a means of reaching out to Jewish fans. (While some questioned the size of that fan base last season, it would stand to reason that it might have increased this year following the addition of the Israeli-born Omri Casspi, who has played well as a smallish-ball power forward for Kevin McHale's team.)

Some of the faces have changed (word to Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio), but the song, and the success of its delivery, remain largely the same:

We knew Dwight Howard would make a meal out of it, but it's nice to see him and Terrence Jones having a fun time, and top marks to Patrick Beverley for seeming like he really wanted to get the words right. A hearty "boo-urns", though, to Chandler Parsons and Donatas Motiejunas for seeming like they had never encountered the song before despite doing this exact same thing last year. And congratulations to Aaron Brooks for, seemingly apropos of nothing, singing (some of) the theme song to "Animaniacs." Quality work, sir.

I'd be tempted to say that this intentionally awkward rendition has everything, but the reality is that it's missing one thing — Carlos Delfino (hit the 1:03 mark). Oh, well. Maybe the Milwaukee Bucks will get in the act this year, too.
