Memphis Grizzlies power forward Ed Davis has been fined $15,000 for making "excessive and unnecessary contact" with Houston Rockets big man Donatas Motiejunas during the two teams' preseason game on Oct. 25, the NBA announced Monday.
The contact took place with 8:42 left in the fourth quarter and the Rockets leading 74-54, after Motiejunas had rebounded a missed 3-pointer by teammate Ronnie Brewer. Here's the play:
Davis received a flagrant foul-2 for his windmill thwack on Motiejunas' face and was immediately ejected from the game. Motiejunas shook off the smack, made his two free throws and stayed in the game for the final eight-plus minutes, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds, a steal and a block in 21 minutes in Houston's 92-73 win.
Davis' response to the news that his bank account's about to be $15,000 lighter:

Well, at least now you know how Donatas felt, Ed.
Of greater note: Rockets All-Star guard James Harden, who had left Friday's game after bumping knees with Memphis swingman Quincy Pondexter during the first quarter, went through a full practice on Monday and said that the knee felt fine ahead of Houston's season opener against the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday.
