Anyone who's heard Dirk Nowitzki belt out "We Are the Champions" or "Born in the USA" knows that the Dallas Mavericks great is both a powerful performer and an undeniably brilliant singer. (And anyone who hasn't should click those two links as soon as humanly possible.) But basketball/music scientists have long remained curious about one critical question: What would it sound like if the 7-foot German sang a version of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" over a Reggie Watts-style loop-based backing track laid down by German house DJ Flula in the backseat of a hatchback being driven by two members of the Dallas Mavericks Dancers?
Well, in the interest of advancing scientific research:
Our hypothesis is confirmed: It'd sound pretty great, even if Dirk clearly does not know very many words to "Satisfaction." Very good stuff all the way around, everyone.
Let us hope this leads to a series of road-tripping classic-rock karaoke videos featuring the 11-time All-Star and 2011 NBA Finals MVP. I'd love to hear Dirk power through choice cuts like "Born to Be Wild" and "Black Betty" as he crisscrosses this great nation of ours, only to close with "The Boys Are Back in Town" as he rolls back into Big D for training camp.
I hardly ask you for anything, Flula. Please make this happen for me.
Hat-tip to r/NBA.
