Eight-time All-Star center Dikembe Mutombo joined several of his former Denver Nuggets teammates and coaches at Pepsi Center on Monday night for a celebration of the 20-year anniversary of the 1994 Nuggets team that staged a stunning and historic 8-over-1 upset of the top-seeded Seattle SuperSonics in the first round of the '94 playoffs. Not only did the present-day Nuggets wear '94 throwback uniforms en route to a 110-100 home win that snapped the Los Angeles Clippers' 11-game winning streak, but the retired four-time Defensive Player of the Year even got to scuttle another dunk attempt during a break in Monday night's action ... albeit in a slightly different fashion than the brand of rim protection that made him the second-leading shot-blocker in NBA history:
Poor Rocky the Mountain Lion, always getting the short end of the stick from All-Stars past and present. Oh, well — I'm sure Deke's going to make it up to the Nuggets' mascot by helping him save 15 percent (or more!) on his car insurance. (Also, y'know, at least this uncomfortable landing was part of the show.)
