At noon on Thursday it is expected to be 92 degrees in Brooklyn, with 50 percent humidity and a heat index that will allow the mugginess to feel like it is 99 degrees. Anyone that is stuck outside in those conditions should attempt to stay fully hydrated, as the city makes its way through a sweltering summer.

Also, if you want, you can go to the Barclays Center and watch a press conference outside on a giant space-age screen! Introducing the particulars of a trade that was consummated three weeks ago!

From a press release, via Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears:

Brooklyn Nets fans are being offered three options through which to watch the team’s major press conference tomorrow, July 18, at noon. The press conference to introduce newly acquired players Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Andrei Kirilenko, and Jason Terry will be shown on the Oculus outside of Barclays Center, televised live on YES Network, and streamed live on www.brooklynnets.com.

The press conference will mark the first live event to be shown on the Oculus, Barclays Center’s 360 degree digital ribbon display that has 3,000 square feet of LED.

“We are thrilled that our fans have three distinct choices in which to watch the start of the next chapter of the Brooklyn Nets,” said Brooklyn Nets CEO Brett Yormark. “Whether it’s on the Oculus, on YES, or on www.brooklynnets.com, we encourage our fans to be part of such a momentous day for Brooklyn’s home team.”

In the Nets’ defense, the idea of a streaming presser for the fans to see in real time outside the stadium is pretty dope. It’s just a bad time of year for anyone to do anything on the outside other than rushing as quickly as one can back inside to air conditioning and cooled beverages. And also in the Nets’ defense, there’s a very real chance that this collection of high-priced talent could put something special together next spring, and work its way toward a championship, and you always like to remember the presser that introduced you to those championship contributors. Especially if Garnett confirms that he is, indeed, wearing the No. 2 in honor of the late Malik Sealy.

Still … it so damn hot.

If you have a chance, I recommend taking in the press conference. I also recommend you taking it in the way I’ll observe it – indoors with the air conditioning cranked, with an oscillating fan just feet away from your laptop, and on the team’s website. While statuesque models fan you from behind, ‘natch.
