You remember Chris Smith, right? Not from his on-court exploits, because the New York Knicks guard hasn’t played a minute all year. No, you remember him from anecdotes like these, as reported by Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski:

Within the Knicks coaching staff, they believe Chris Smith doesn't even have the talent to be an NBA Development League player – never mind worthy of a roster spot. One opposing GM called him "maybe the worst player in the history of the [NBA] summer league."

Rumor has long had it that Smith was only added to the lacking Knicks roster because of a behind-the-back pact with J.R. Smith’s representatives, an added favor to keep Smith in line while doing a solid for a representative team that could funnel future free agents New York’s way.

Meanwhile, NBA veterans Pooh Jeter and Bobby Brown were left looking for a roster spot when NBA camps opened, having to find work in China while waiting things out. The Los Angeles-raised guards are clearly close pals with Detroit Pistons guard Brandon Jennings, who hopped on Twitter on Wednesday night to ask his followers why, exactly, they’re out of a job while Chris Smith draws a paycheck.

Jennings immediately deleted the tweet, which is why we have to go with Holly MacKenzie’s re-tweet for documentation. Pro Basketball Talk’s Dan Feldman, who covers Jennings for Piston Powered, was kind enough to follow along and jot down the back and forth:

Yikes. Put Detroit on smash. Yo-K.

As Feldman pointed out, the Josh Selby reference likely has to do with this dunk from the 2011 Goodman League:

The Knicks and Pistons play on Tuesday, with J.R. Smith having returned from a five-day drug suspension because he’s J.R. Smith. Don’t expect a war, but don’t expect #peace either.
