Miami Heat fans have a pretty poor reputation among NBA observers and partisans. In the eyes of many, they show up late for important games, approach the game itself with cursory interest, and generally just don't know very much about basketball. As with any stereotype, it's easy to question the validity of those statements, but there's no question that it's the perception. Maybe it's just an uncomfortable byproduct of living in a city where the weather is often amazing.

The creative minds at "Jimmy Kimmel Live" decided the popular image of Miami Heat fans was ripe for exploitation. So as part of their post-game show after Tuesday night's Game 3, they decided to ask various Heat fans about some of the key strategic battles and important players of the series. Except, because it was part of their "Lie Witness News" series, all those issues and figures were fake. Watch the video above, and try to come up with your own thoughts on the intricacies of the rhombus offense and the coaching acumen of Erik Estrada.

For a blowout win that was over by the fourth quarter, this sure is one compelling video. NBA entertainment knows what it’s doing. As does San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who delivered the best in-huddle lines of the evening, as is usually the case. Give it a watch:

Mike Prada and John Schuhmann do dynamite jobs of breaking down LeBron James' evident, persistent struggles in the Miami Heat's huge Game 3 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, owing in part to San Antonio's deep-sagging, paint-packing team defense and James' curious inability to hit jumpers in the Finals after sharpening his stroke this season.

PF: Grantland. Zach Lowe's Game 3 recap focuses on the surprisingly porous and uncommunicative Heat defense that enabled San Antonio's full-scale long-range onslaught: "[...] the Heat will lose just like this if they continue to make very basic NBA mistakes."

SF: Waiting for Next Year. A good read from Scott Sargent on how being jettisoned by the Cleveland Cavaliers in favor of the likes of Manny Harris was the best thing that could ever have happened to NBA Finals-leading scorer Danny Green.

You know how the Miami Heat (like many sports teams before them) have been using the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" as their player introduction music, and how Heat backers at the AmericanAirlines Arena have fallen in love with “OOOOH OH OH OH OH OHHHH OHHHHHHH” chants when things are going pretty well for Erik Spoelstra's squadron? Yeah, San Antonio Spurs fans know, too.

And apparently, like the dude Eddie Maisonet, the AT&T Center faithful aren't such big fans of the practice — so with the clock winding down on San Antonio's long-range-bombing 36-point beatdown, Spurs fans decided to twist the knife just a little bit by letting loose some big-time bellows:

Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert is one of the game's more genial types, he's one of the more social media-friendly fellows to follow, and he remains one of the more quick-witted and creative minds in the game. So imagine our surprise when, while releasing a video designed to "preview" the video game 'Call of Duty: Ghosts,' Roy acted the strong, silent type throughout the entire clip package.

Yep, just one "whoa" in the first 40 seconds of the video, precious little after that, and no actual preview.

One has to take a “source close to the situation” and a “source familiar with their line of thinking” with a rather large grain of salt, but it has been nearly six weeks since the Boston Celtics’ season has ended, and they appear no closer than they were in early May in figuring out just how to move forward with this aging team. Paul Pierce could be waived in a cost-cutting move later this month, Kevin Garnett is the subject of frequent trade and retirement rumors, and even though coach Doc Rivers told the media that he would be “coming back until I say I'm not” following the team’s first-round loss to New York last month, that hasn’t stopped the chatter.

Take it for what you will, but ESPN’s Chris Broussard dropped this on Wednesday morning:

"Doc loves coaching," the source told ESPN. "He loves coaching in Boston. But he feels it may be time for a change."

The San Antonio Spurs' return to the NBA Finals, and strong performance there thus far, has meant increased attention on a team and organization that doesn't exactly court the spotlight. Sometimes, that means learning more about people from whom we haven't heard much, like sharpshooting Game 3 heroes Danny Green and Gary Neal. Sometimes, it means lavishing a bit more deserved praise on celebrated stars like Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, who (despite not playing especially well themselves) earned their 100th playoff victory as a "Big Three" on Tuesday.

And sometimes, when we're lucky, it means getting more information about the fascinating and irascible Gregg Popovich, the leader of the Spurs' near-dynastic charge, whose famously brusque demeanor only makes us want to know more about him. A recent Sports Illustrated deep-dive scratched the itch a bit, with Jack McCallum telling us that "all who know [Pop] well [describe him] as smart, funny, compassionate and even warm." But it didn't go all the way, thanks in large part to Pop's reticence to speak to McCallum about himself, which he described using two more words than he did during one recent sideline interview: "It's an Academy thing."

That's the Air Force Academy, from which Pop graduated in 1970 with a degree in Soviet studies and a pretty perfect yearbook entry. So Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News went back to the academy in search of some folks who would talk about the man they knew as "Popo" — Joe Kreimborg, Bill Purcell and Charlie Brown, who played with Popovich on the Air Force basketball team for three seasons, went on to become commercial pilots and still keep up with their old teammate.

Townsend's whole story about the relationship these four men have forged over the decades is great and well worth your time, but from a "this is the most interesting man in the world" perspective, no nugget's as rich as the one about the intelligence training Popovich received while at the academy.

The alert came in the hours after the San Antonio Spurs' dominating 113-77 victory over the Miami Heat in Game 3 of the NBA Finals from SB Nation's Paul Flannery:
