We don't get much of a chance to talk about Travis Kvapil other than goofing on his last name now and then, so let's throw him a little love here. According to his press folks at Front Row Motorsports, he's in for a busy Saturday.
Here's a look at what it's like for NASCAR drivers who are racing in their hometown. Starting at 7:45 on Saturday morning, Kvapil and his family will run a 5K charity road race. Then he's got to go into dad mode, attending two soccer games and a flag football game for his kids; because of travel, this is the first weekend he'll get to see his kids play. And that evening, it's off to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Bank of America 500.
"It’s going to be a marathon day, but I’m excited for it," said Kvapil. "I love racing cars, but obviously all the travel makes you miss out on a lot of family stuff. We’re going to squeeze in as much as we can in one day and make the most of the weekend at home. With the 5K in the morning and the race at night, looks like I’m going to log about 503 miles on Saturday. I might need to sneak a nap in the hauler."
You notice he said 503 miles there. Unlike some of his fellow drivers -- and, for that matter, quite a few fellow runners -- he won't be starting-and-parking in either race. Good luck with all the activities, Travis ... but skip the postgame cupcakes. Those'll have you gagging in your helmet.
