Nationwide ups 2015 sponsorship of Dale Earnhardt Jr. to 21 races

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has gained some sponsorship for 2015.

Hendrick Motorsports announced Friday that Junior will be sponsored by Nationwide Insurance for 21 races in 2015. The company had initially said it would sponsor 12 races in 2015 and 13 races in 2016 and 2017.

Now, it will sponsor 21 races all three years.

“I know the people at Nationwide extremely well and truly appreciate how invested they are in our team and our sport,” Earnhardt Jr. said in a statement. “It’s extremely gratifying that they recognize so much value in the partnership and want to do more. Having this kind of support and seeing so many positive things happening around the team feels really good.”

If you've watched any NASCAR over the last few years, you know that the Earnhardt family has had Nationwide Insurance from the company's commercials. Nationwide is leaving its sponsorship of the No. 2 series in NASCAR at the end of the season. The now-Nationwide Series will be the Xfinity Series in 2015.

Junior was also in need of sponsorship because of the National Guard's decision to pull out of motorsports marketing at the end of the year. Hendrick also said in a statement Friday that it was in discussions with the National Guard, which had an agreeement with the team through 2015.

Junior still has 11 unsponsored races in 2015. Who wants in with us?
