The NASCAR World Cup: Who'll move on?

Nick Bromberg

Two groups in The Marbles' NASCAR World Cup will be decided this week by matchups between drivers with 1-1 records.

In Group C, AJ Allmendinger and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will face off, with the winner moving on and in Group D, the winner of the Martin Truex and Ryan Newman matchup will advance.

For all the other groups, however, it's not that simple. For example, if David Reutimann beats Paul Menard and Denny Hamlin beats David Ragan in Group G, Hamlin will be 3-0 and the other three drivers will be 1-2. And since this is a head-to-head tournament, finish differential is our first tiebreaker, not total finishes. A driver could have three top 10s in the group stage and still lose to someone else who didn't finish higher than 20th.

Group A: Brad Keselowski (2-0) vs. Mark Martin (1-1), Kurt Busch (1-1) vs. Juan Pablo Montoya (0-2)

Group B: Tony Stewart (2-0) vs. Sam Hornish Jr. (1-1), Kyle Busch (1-1) vs. Joey Logano (0-2)

Group C: Jimmie Johnson (2-0) vs. Robby Gordon (0-2), AJ Allmendinger (1-1) vs. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (1-1)

Group D: Jeff Burton (2-0) vs. Bobby Labonte (0-2), Ryan Newman (1-1) vs. Martin Truex (1-1)

Group E: Carl Edwards (2-0) vs. Matt Kenseth (2-0), Kasey Kahne (0-2) vs. Regan Smith (0-2)

Group F: Kevin Harvick (2-0) vs. Greg Biffle (1-1), Jamie McMurray (1-1) vs. Elliott Sadler (0-2)

Group G: Denny Hamlin (2-0) vs. David Ragan (1-1), Paul Menard (1-1) vs. David Reutimann (0-2)

Group H: Jeff Gordon (2-0) vs. Marcos Ambrose (0-2), Clint Bowyer (1-1) vs. Scott Speed (1-1)
