Michael Waltrip Racing and JTG-Daugherty Racing and its drivers have been penalized for unapproved windshields on the cars at Talladega.

David Reutimann and Martin Truex Jr. of MWR, and Bobby Labonte of JTG-Daugherty were each penalized 25 points, and crew chiefs Rodney Childers (Reutimann), Chad Johnston (Truex) and Frank Kerr (Labonte) have been fined $50,000 and suspended for the final four races, as have the teams' car chiefs.

A NASCAR release said, "All three cars were found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20 of the rule book, or has not been approved by NASCAR prior to the event); and 20-3.2.1A (unapproved modification to an approved windshield) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book."

JTG-Daugherty has a technical alliance with MWR. Both teams will not appeal. Truex is now 25th in the points standings, while Reutimann and Labonte remain 28th and 29th.

"Michael Waltrip Racing is ultra-sensitive and very serious about working within the guidelines of NASCAR policy," MWR said in a statement. "We do not condone this type of activity and as such we will take appropriate internal corrective action immediately. We thank NASCAR for providing a fair and equitable platform for all of its competitors and respect its decisions; therefore, we will not appeal."

All three cars also were penalized 25 owners points and MWR competition director Bobby Kennedy was put on probation through the end of the year. Kennedy will serve as the interim crew chief for Reutimann, while Pat Tryson will serve as Truex's crew chief. Tryson was replaced by Johnston in June atop Truex's pit box.

JTG-Daugherty announced on Sunday that it would move into its own shop for 2012 and that former RCR crew chief Todd Berrier would be the crew chief for Labonte.
