Tuesday was the first day of Formula 1 preseason testing at the Jerez Circuit, and Lewis Hamilton crashed his 2014 Mercedes into a tire barrier.
It was the first time that the 2014 model cars have had track time and the speed that Kimi Raikkonen posted for Ferrari was nine seconds slower than the speed Jensen Button ran in testing a year ago.
The 2014 cars have 1.6 liter turbocharged V6 engines this year. Sebastian Vettel only ran three laps during Tuesday's test and didn't post a time.
The new cars have received scrutiny for their interesting looks. Vettel's Red Bull car looks the best of the new models, and the 2014 Lotus looks odd with its double nose configuration, though its proposed design has not made it on track yet.
