Joey Logano goes after Kevin Harvick after he and Harvick collide

>

Racing for fifth place on lap 199 of the Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500, Kevin Harvick got into Joey Logano as the two were in turn three. Logano had raced Harvick hard -- but very cleanly -- through turns one and two on that lap, and Harvick's response on the radio after Logano spun was that he needed to learn to give other drivers room.

Logano countered that Harvick intentionally got off the gas to hit him in the right rear quarterpanel and spin him.

"Racing 29 and he let me go in the middle of the straightaway and decided to dump me in the next turn," Logano said. "I don't know what his deal is with me. It's probably not his fault. His wife wears the firesuit in the family and tells him what to do. It's probably not his fault."

Whoa. Them's fightin' words.

Logano was ready to fight, or at the very least, talk to Harvick at the end of the race, but was momentarily held back by one of his crew members. (And simultaneously encouraged to go after Harvick by his father, Tom)

However, when Logano tried to get to Harvick, Harvick was surrounded by crewmembers of his own team. And while amateur lip readers could tell that Logano was uttering some of George Carlin's seven dirty words, it was unclear what Logano actually said to Harvick.

"I don't know what I've done to piss him off," Logano said. "But he's apparently stupid."

"He needs to know how I feel. No one lets me go up and talk to the guy. You get out of the car and want to talk to the guy and see whats going on and there's 6000 crewmembers around you and you can't go up and talk to him. So I mean how you're supposed to settle something when you can't even talk to the guy? Which there's no talking to him anyway."

Harvick's take? Well, it was pretty short and sweet, thanks to a weak one and done interview with TNT's Phil Parsons.

"I just got in there and we just wound up getting together. Just two cars going to the same space at one time," Harvick said.

Regardless of if Harvick truly intentionally got into Logano, Logano grew up in front of the NASCAR world Sunday afternoon by going to confront Harvick. Logano was furious -- the maddest that many have ever seen him -- and made his official Sprint Cup driver rite of passage by parking near Harvick's car on pit lane.

There's history between the two, as they got together at Bristol in the Nationwide race, and Logano's also drawn the ire of Greg Biffle and Kasey Kahne at various points in the season.

Whether or not he reasonably made Biffle and Kahne made is irrelevant too. Logano just turned 20 and he needed to show his fellow drivers that he wouldn't tolerate being pushed around. And Logano made that statement Sunday. It just would have been -- believe it or not -- even stronger if his dad hadn't jumped into the middle of the fray.
