Sunday's race was a painful reminder for JTG-Daugherty crew member Tyler Mitchell that pit road can be a dangerous place.
Mitchell, the rear-tire carrier for Bobby Labonte, went to retrieve the tire that had just been removed from Labonte's right rear wheel. But as the tire skipped behind Labonte's car and towards the pit stall of Jeff Burton, Burton was pulling out of his spot.
Burton hit the rolling tire, which shot back towards Mitchell and hit him in the right knee, knocking him over.
Thankfully, Mitchell was OK. However, Labonte's race was not. He later spun and ended up 35th. Despite damage from the incident with the tire, Burton was near the front all afternoon and finished 8th.
