Bobby Dale Earnhardt, grandson of Dale Earnhardt and nephew of Dale Earnhardt Jr., was picked up on drunk-driving charges in West Virginia earlier this week, and he's now released a statement about the incident:

"I wanted to let you all know I made a terrible mistake last night drinking and driving and I am thankful nothing bad happened from my stupidity and I know It could have. I'm sorry for letting all my fans friends and family down and I hope I can make it up to each and everyone of you and in the future be a good role model. I will continue to move forward with my racing career and I hope I continue to have your support thanks."

Earnhardt, age 25, was pulled over after a Charleston police officer observed him making a left turn at a high rate of speed. According to the officer on the scene, Earnhardt's eyes were glassy and he slurred his speech.

Tests showed Earnhardt's blood alcohol level was .193, more than twice West Virginia's legal limit of .08. Earnhardt was charged with first-offense driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.

Earnhardt is now living in West Virginia to gain racing experience, and hopes to run in the ARCA Truck Series.
