In the past twelve months, the UFC staged four events across the Atlantic, and though mixed martial arts is relatively new in the UK and Ireland, the Brits and Irish have proved to be a great audience for mixed martial arts.

The arenas have been full, each time nearing 10,000 fans, of raucous crowds. Even during some of the awful fights that happened on Saturday, they cheered, sang and experienced every punch. They had their favorites, but even when they lost, like when native son Tom Egan was TKO'ed by Brit John Hathaway, the crowd was kind.

This is all to say that the UFC has made the right decision to continue to expand MMA into the UK and Ireland through the Ultimate Fighter. The show has some fixing to do, as the Nevada State Athletic Commission has advised, but devoting the show to developing MMA in a place where it is dying to expand helps not only the UFC, but MMA in general.
