UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva to run for Brazilian congress

Wanderlei Silva plans to begin a campaign for congress in his native Brazil after fighting Chael Sonnen this year, according to a press release from the MMA legend. According to a report from Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting, Silva is affiliated with the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) in Parana, Brazil.

Beating up the Brazil-knocking Sonnen is actually a part of Silva's campaign, thus far.

"I’ll go to the TUF house, knock Sonnen out and then start my campaign," the release said.

"The Axe Murderer" said that he has many social projects in mind and is tired of waiting on others to complete them. He has already opened up a free gym, the type of which he spoke to Yahoo! Sports about in 2012, and wants to give back more to poor Brazilians.

"I realized that I have many projects to be done, many interesting things, and if everything goes right, I will do this," Silva said.

"I just opened a free, public MMA gym in Paraiba, so why can’t Curitiba or Sao Paulo have one? No money? Someone needs to do this. I’m tired of asking, so I’m going to do that on my own hands at the congress."

"No more corrupt politicians stealing from us," he went on.

"This generation [of politicians] needs to go to jail, retire or die. It’s the time for the good people, but we need to do something. It needs to be good for everybody. And if you think [soccer star turned politician] Romario is controversial, wait until I get there."
