Translator’s pen steals show at UFC 144

Though UFC 144 started with an impressive knockout by Issei Tamura and Vaughan Lee finishing off Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto, it was the translator Mizutuma's pen that really stole the show.

The UFC asked a translator into the cage at the Saitama Super Arena to share comments from fighters and commentator Joe Rogan. She used a pen and paper to keep track of everything said. A multi-colored, fuzzy pen.

After the fights, she tweeted a picture of her pen with the introduction, "Let me introduce my partner."

If there's one thing MMA needs, it's more flair. Hopefully this pen will open the door for cage announcer Bruce Buffer to use a bedazzled microphone.

I was going to ease up on the Mags bashing but I come on here after one of the best cards the UFC has had in a while and find Mags writing about a pen.A pen? Seriously? What's next and article on cookie...........oh #$%$ I forgot. But seriously, what do Rampage and Mags have in common. Both are overrated, cannot make weight, have no heart for MMA, and should be fired immediately.

Why is there lipstick on his neck?! I think that should be more newsworthy than a #$%$ pen!

This article has to be the goddam dumbest thing I have ever read. A pen? Are you serious?

I never have ganged up on Hendricks' past blogs but I may start after this one. How about you blog about how Yamamoto was virtually unbeatable before he signed with the UFC and now couldn't beat anyone but instead you choose to focus on a writing untensil

its hard not to gang up when so many of these blogs are about completely irrelevant things...

Really?!?! All those great fights and you do a blog posting about a pen?! I don't usually hate on Maggie's stuff, it's a blog after all, but wow........ Cofield is a different story tho, I hope he breaks both his hands so he can't type, and just for good measure gets his voice box removed so I don't have to see him botch anymore interviews. Then do the same to MJD.

Hey Yahoo, please warn your readers whenever it's a Hendricks' article. The only way you ever get me to view a piece of her "work" is when the author's name isn't attached...

Thats Maggie Hendriks everybody. Never failing to bring us the real stories from the front lines with her brand of hard nosed, take no prisoners style journalism. Seriously though this lady sucks. She rarely writes a story about actual MMA. MAGGIE YOU ARE TERRIBLE IF CAGEWRITER IS PAYING YOU THEY ARE JUST AS CLUELESS AS YOU ARE. YOU ARE NOT HELPING TO BREAK DOWN STEREOTYPES ABOUT WOMEN AND THIS SPORT YOU ARE ONLY MAKING IT WORSE.

Thanks for sharing about her pen. I stayed up the last 2 nights wondering about her pen, doing endless internet searches for it. Wow! Thanks for saving my sleepless nights Maggie!
